Stealth (sold)

Wolf in pastel/pastel pencil. 23.5” x 17” (framed).

Wolf. "Stealth". Original painting by Wendy Warren.

Wolves have been unjustly persecuted for centuries. It is only in these now slightly more enlightened times that they have become recognised for the skilled hunters and loyal pack animals that they are and efforts have been undertaken to conserve these wonderful creatures.

A while back I had the privilege of attending a group art workshop day with the brilliant wildlife artist Vic Bearcroft, which was held at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust in Berkshire. (An excellent, hardworking non-profit organisation dedicated to conserving the wolf). This was a truly memorable day, because not only did I gain some valuable tuition, I also got to meet some of these stunning creatures first hand. I’ve actually stroked the wolf in this painting! Even tickled his tummy!

This painting has been ‘on my drawing board’ so to speak for a very long time! Something about it just didn’t sit right with me and even though I had had it framed, it sat in my house covered over for several months. Eventually I felt the time was right to uncover it and try again and I’m really glad I did, because I am now so much happier with it!

Wolves have an intensity and presence that it is truly thrilling to experience. Their eyes really do seem to hypnotise and can make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up! I wanted to try to portray some of that magnetism, power and charisma in Stealth.
