Ocelot. "Prince of the Rainforest".
The "Prince of the Rainforest" is a original painting of an Ocelot by wildlife artist, Wendy Warren. Rendered in pastel and pastel pencils, "the Prince" captures the focused power of this magnificent creature.
The painting is presented in a beautiful, black, hand-finished frame (45.5cm x 32.5cm). This Victorian style presentation, without a mount, leaves the painting jewel-like against the dark wood. A beautiful and unique piece of art.
"Prince of the Rainforest" is for sale at £1,200 (or as a limited edition print).
If you are interested please contact Wendy for details. We are delighted to include a personal note if the painting is a gift.
Wendy... on painting an Ocelot
Everyone loves the big cats. They’re so imposing and powerful, but as a consequence sometimes I think the smaller cats get overlooked, which is a shame because they are equally as beautiful and awe inspiring in their own right.
Whenever I’m at the zoo I always take a trip to see the ocelots. Most often they’re doing exactly what a lot of the other cats seem to do... sleep! However if you’re lucky (or patient), they get a little more energetic, and that’s always worth waiting for.
Ocelots are exquisitely beautiful. They have wonderful markings, particularly on their faces, and their coats are dense and luxurious. They are incredibly neat and compact and just ooze power and suppleness.
In this painting he’s just raising his head slightly, tasting the air and getting a scent of what lays ahead. Perhaps a mate or his next meal?
I called this painting ‘Prince of the Rainforest’, because although ocelots can be found in scrubland, it currently thrives in the rainforests. With large cats such as the jaguar and leopard inhabiting rainforests too ‘prince’ seemed like an appropriate honour.
