Fallow Deer Fawn

Fallow Deer in pastel/pastel pencil. 24” x 20” (framed).

"Fallow Deer Fawn". Original painting by Wendy Warren.

Quite simply, I couldn't resist this one!

If you've ever read any of my entries about deer before, you'll know that they are a passion of mine. I never tire of watching them and they always delight and inspire me. They are such exquisitely beautiful, graceful and dignified creatures that I just can't get enough of them. I always feel so privileged if I encounter deer during my early morning walks in the woods near where I live. I'm very fortunate to have Roe, Fallow and Muntjac all living nearby and although I have seen fallow deer fawns, (and indeed Roe also), in my woods, I am yet to be quick enough or get close enough to obtain good enough reference for a painting, but one day!

The reference for this painting once again came from one of my favourite places, Bucklebury Farm. This little chap was only a few weeks old. Brimming over with cuteness, inquisitiveness and a new found boldness. Bathed in sunshine, I just had to paint him! Painting, drawing and observing deer quite simply brings me joy. There is nothing quite like our own, very beautiful British wildlife!
